PHPNW 08 took place last Saturday, and even though I wasn't too well, I had a great time. I thought my talk went okay, and judging from the feedback, at least some people learnt something from it which is good. I hope that the tongue-in-cheek references to my book were taken in the light-hearted manner intended. The conference seemed well-attended and the organisation was top-notch. Jeremy, Jenny, Emma, Lorna and everyone else involved did a… continue reading.
From one conference to another one. On the 22nd November 2008, the PHPNW08 conference in Manchester takes place and I'm speaking! My talk is entitled "First steps with Zend Framework" and it will cover an introduction to ZF and then walk through building an MVC application using the Zend Framework. There are lots of interesting talks scheduled so far. They look aimed at a wide and I want to see every one. If you are… continue reading.
I'm now back from ZendCon which was the most intense conference I've ever been too. I arrived late Saturday evening and after dropping off the stuff at my hotel, I walked the mile or so to the conference hotel to meet up with some #phpc people. I didn't stay in the Hyatt as it was too expensive for me. The walk took a little longer than I expected as I kept walking the wrong way,… continue reading.
There's a new UK PHP conference coming in November. PHPNW08 will take place on 22nd November 2008 which is a Saturday so there's no excuses not to go! To select the talks that will be presented, a Call for Papers has been announced with a deadline of 21st September 2008. From my reading of the website, this is a developer-centric conference and so if you have something to say about current PHP technologies and development… continue reading.
The PHP UK Conference in London is over for another year and this year's event was another evolutionary improvement on last year's. It was held in Inmarsat's conference facilities in the City of London. There were two conference rooms in use: a 300 seat main auditorium and a smaller 75 seat second room. There were also a large social area for food, drinks and networking. I thought it worked really well, kudos to Paul Morgan… continue reading.
I've just come back from the PHP UK Conference (2007) held in London. It was a one day event with five speakers. I took a few photos, but most didn't come out too well as ISO 400 sucks on my camera! Cal Evans introduced us to mash ups and the pain of getting an API key from UPS! Simon Laws talked about SCA which was new to me and I thought it was a very… continue reading.
I wrote this post to the PHP West Midlands mailing list, so thought I'd put it here too: Iain asked, so here it is! It was a one day event for £50 on the early bird thing and £75 if you ordered later. I stayed at a hotel around the corner for £35 inc breakfast. I drove down and parked at Perivale tube station and used the Underground from there. Total cost for the entire… continue reading.
Just got back from the conference and thought it was excellent. The social last night was good too – makes me wish I lived in London! It was a one day event for £50 on the early bird thing and £75 if you ordered later. I stayed at a B&B around the corner for £35 inc breakfast. I drove down and parked at Perivale tube station and used the Underground from there. Total cost for… continue reading.
